I like stand-up comedians. Not all of them, but those who tell it as it is. If I were to decide who the most intelligent and smartest stand-up comedian was I would pick George Carlin. He didn’t hesitate to question things we normally take for granted and simply accept as social norms. Actually he was more of a philosopher than just a regular comedian. My second choice would be Richard Pryor, an excellent story teller.

• At a formal dinner party, the person nearest death should always be seated closest to the bathroom.
• Atheism is a non-prophet organization.
• Electricity is really just organized lightning.
• If you can’t beat them, arrange to have them beaten.
• May the forces of evil become confused on the way to your house.
• Well, if crime fighters fight crime and fire fighters fight fire, what do freedom fighters fight? They never mention that part to us, do they?
• If someone with multiple personalities threatens to kill himself, is it considered a hostage situation?
• What do you do when you see an endangered animal eating an endangered plant?

Typical scenario: guy goes to a bar, does a quick scanning of the people inside the bar and walks straight to a blonde sitting all alone at the corner…the story goes. What about the Linux/Unix version of the story?

Microsoft on Net Neutrality

I dug a bit more today and found some interesting nuggets in Microsoft’s comments about the Federal Communications Commission’s proposed net neutrality rules.

The software giant, long a proponent of open Internet policies, isn’t as keen on some portions of a proposed rule by FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski that would restrict any discrimination of Web traffic or applications by broadband access providers such as Comcast, AT&Tand Verizon. more
